I received my review copy of the book just before leaving for an international business trip (for my real job!). I had a little fun making a visual quiz, along the lines of “Where in the World is Wine Folly?” Scroll to the bottom of the post for the answers.

Most wine enthusiasts are familiar with Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack through their popular website: Wine Folly. The Wine Folly Magnum Edition provides a key compendium of information in print form. The Wine Folly book is designed in a visual, infographic style and is organized perfectly for quick reference looks, or a brief subject read.  Just right for the time between the airplane doors close and you reach 10,000 ft. Take a look at the major chapters and example pages below. You’ll get an idea of what to expect.

Lots of great information in this chapter, especially for newcomers or casual wine drinkers.

Madeline presents ideas and concrete suggestions for wine pairings.

You’ll recognize this section from the first book, but there are more grapes and more in depth information on each one.

Wine regions of the world. Of particular use, how to decipher a wine label from the region

There is so much information packed into a wine label, but every region is different. Madeline gives you all the important clues for the major regions.

Finally, explanation for all those wine terms you always wondered about!

My Thoughts
The new edition of Wine Folly provides a much more complete guide to wine compared to the original. The infographic style is modern, clean and supports a “just the facts” approach to the subject. While this book is best for newcomers and casual wine drinkers thirsty for a bit more knowledge, even experienced enthusiasts will enjoy having it as part of their collection.
