Invitation to Explore Victoria Reds with #WorldWineTravel

#WorldWineTravel Writers Move East to Victoria for Red Wines
April takes our virtual tour of Australia to Victoria and their red wines. Our writers will be searching out interesting stories and wines from this less well-known state to highlight as we all learn more about Australia and its wines!

Victoria Highlights
Victoria is one of six states in Australia, four of which produce wine. With 21 wine regions within, Victoria has a wide variety of climates supporting a similarly wide range of wines. The range extends from the hot/dry region of Murray Darling known for inexpensive grapes for large production wines to cool Yarra Valley, where high quality Pinto Noir grapes can be grown. Victoria’s largest city is Melbourne, acting as a good launching point for visitors.

Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula are closest to Melbourne and offer cool climate conditions, perfect for grapes like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Grampians, Heathcote and King Valley offer warmer conditions, so Australia’s familiar reds – Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon all thrive here.

As mentioned above, Murray Darling is traditionally a high volume grape growing region, but recently, smaller producers have been staking out their own vineyards with a high quality approach.

Jamsheed is from Yarra Valley and MWC Shiraz is from the greater Victoria region
